The American Horror Story: Cult episode ‘Mid-Western Assassin,’ cult leader Kai Anderson (Evan Peters) holds a political rally and warns everyone, “The monsters are here!” One woman in the crowd stands (wearing a green blazer) and addresses Anderson, “You’re just trying to get these people scared.” He says she’s right. After the rally she says “He needs to be stopped,” and then we see her fire a gun.
Mare Winningham provides the opposition for Kai. She’s been on American Horror Story before. She was in Season 3’s Coven as Evan Peters’s mother, Alicia Spencer; in Season 4’s Freak Show as Rita Gayheart; and in Season 5’s Hotel as the laundress Mrs. Evers. Winningham is also known for her roles on The Affair (Cherry Lockhart), Grey’s Anatomy (Susan Grey), and ER (Dr. Amanda Lee), and in the films Turner & Hooch (Emily), Georgia (Georgia Flood, for which she was nominated for an Oscar), Nobody’s Fool (Pat), and St. Elmo’s Fire (virgin Wendy Beamish), among others.
