On the Season 4 premiere of black-ish, Dre Johnson (Anthony Anderson) starts spiraling at a school play about Columbus Day. Fed up with the historical inaccuracies taught in school, Dre sets out to bring back Juneteenth, a celebration of the end of slavery. When he comes up with ad campaign to make it happen, he calls in singer/songwriter Aloe Blacc.

Aloe Blacc launched his music career in 1995 when he teamed up with hip hop producer Exile and formed Emanon (no name backwards). They released three albums together. Blacc went solo in 2003 and released three albums including his latest, Lift Your Spirit (see link above), which was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2015 for Best R&B Album. Black-ish airs Tuesdays at 9pm on ABC.
