On Sunday, September 10, ABC will air the 2018 Miss America Competition held at the legendary Atlantic City boardwalk. Miss America 2017 Savvy Shields will be on hand at the beach to crown Miss America 2018. The judges are TV host Maria Menounos, former Miss America Nina Davuluri, country singer Thomas Rhett, model/actress Molly Sims, singer/actress Jordin Sparks, and People Editor-in-Chief Jess Cagle.

Jess Cagle says of the competition that he’s “mostly excited about the swimsuit” and was delighted to be picked up in Manhattan by a stretch limousine. See video below. When Cagle became editor-in-chief of People in 2014, the New York Times published a feature on the man who “grew up a Hollywood-obsessed pop culture fanatic in Abilene, Texas” in a conservative Baptist family. Soon after graduating from Baylor University he got a job at People in 1987 and helped to launch Entertainment Weekly where he went on to be editorial director. In an EW article Cagle wrote in 2002, he revealed that he was gay.
