Microsoft founder, philanthropist and world’s richest man Bill Gates doesn’t have too many regrets. (Which is good, because where would that leave the rest of us?) Anyway, Gates is making news again after giving a talk at Bloombert. Gates again revealed one of his regrets about the work that made him rich: if he’d had it his way, the Control-Alt-Delete combo that turned on Microsoft-run computers would have been a single button. It’s particularly galling because Microsoft rival Apple got the function loaded onto a single key. Gates blames a designer at IBM, whose keyboard design wouldn’t make room for the all-in-one Microsoft button. (Apple built its own hardware, of course.)
The Gates reveal is making big news, as does almost anything the world’s richest man does. But it’s hardly new. Gates spoke at length on this back in 2013. And it’s funny to consider he hasn’t been able to think up a new regret in the interim! Charmed life, that Bill Gates lives. Then again, trying to solve all the world’s problems and eradicate major diseases is his current gig at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Gates probably wouldn’t mind if he could find a three-key solution for these challenges. Below is Gates talking at Harvard about things including the 3-key login:
