If the story of 29-year-old singer Mandy Harvey doesn’t pull on your heartstrings, you need to reexamine yourself. The talented singer lost her hearing at the age of 18 while in college. It took her a year to overcome the reality and to sing again. She does so without shoes, so she can feel the vibration of the music. For her audition on America’s Got Talent, Season 12, she performed an original song that she wrote called “Try”.

After her performance, the cameras caught a number of people in the audience waving their hands toward Harvey instead of clapping. Those familiar with ASL (American Sign Language) know it is an appropriate way to demonstrate one’s appreciation to a deaf artist on stage (since they cannot hear the clapping). Though with the roar Mandy got, she must have felt those vibrations. America’s Got Talent airs Tuesdays at 8pm on NBC.
