FOX’s new reality show You the Jury features six high profile lawyers as they defend their clients in front of a real life former judge (LaDoris Cordell of the Superior Court of California). The twist is: viewers at home serve as the jury. Similar to talent shows like America’s Got Talent or The Voice, viewers send their votes (guilty or not guilty) via text or the You The Jury app. Unlike a real court jury, there is no time for deliberation – viewers have just five minutes to vote after the case has been presented.
According to FOX, “The vote on the verdict is 100% live and binding” however, “when the West Coast votes, if the cumulative votes lead to a different verdict…the original verdict will be overturned as the final outcome of the case.”
