Filmmaker John Singleton is the executive producer of the new cop drama Rebel on BET. Rebel refers to African-American Oakland police officer Rebecca “Rebel” Knight (Danielle Moné Truitt). When her brother Malik is shot dead by fellow officers, she seeks justice and revenge. Meanwhile, she also has to deal with her grieving father, Rene Knight, who loves his daughter but also blames her for the death of Malik.

Rebel’s father Rene Knight is portrayed by Mykelti Williamson. He’s known for his roles on the TV shows Justified (Ellstin Limehouse), Nashville (Terry George), 24 (Brian Hastings), CSI: NY (Chief Brigham Sinclair), Boomtown (Det. Bobby “Fearless” Smith), The Fugitive (Lt. Philip Gerard), Midnight Caller (Deacon Bridges), and Hill Street Blues (Off. Ron Garfield), among others. Williamson is also well recognized for his roles in the films Fences (Gabriel), Forrest Gump (Bubba Blue), Heat (Sgt. Drucker), and Con Air (Baby-O). Rebel airs Tuesdays at 10pm on BET.
