In the Empire episode ‘Sound & Fury’, while Lucious (Terrence Howard) puts Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) on notice after launching his new music project Inferno, their son Jamal (Jussie Smollett) is in rehab where he befriends musician Tory Ash. When they’re done with their treatment, they meet in the studio and sing “Simple Song.” Cookie likes what she hears. “Play that funky music, white girl,” she says to Tory.

Tory Ash is portrayed by Rumer Willis, the 28-year-old daughter of Hollywood stars Demi Moore and Bruce Willis. In 2015, the actress/singer won season 20 of Dancing with the Stars (with partner Val Chmerkovskiy). During the season, Willis and Val danced to Willis’ version of the Britney Spears song “Toxic.” Later that year, Willis made her Broadway debut in Chicago as Roxie Hart. Empire airs Wednesdays at 9pm on FOX.
