The typical image search for “three asian teenagers” isn’t so bad, lots of innocuous stock photography resembling the now famous “three white teenagers” search — sweet and wholesome sell-me-something pics, created for heartwarming marketing pitches. But many straight US web searches on “three Asian teenagers” reveal a porn fiasco, with SEO being dominated by sites like pornhub, xvideos and others — some results having titles like “Three Asian Girls ____ One Guy” and “Three Asian Girls Getting Frisky” — and much worse. (Side note: aren’t there any male Asian teenagers?) You’d think maybe “Three Asian Girls finish top 3 at Yale” might be a headline that made the first page, but then again that’s a stereotype, too. There is a prototypical Getty Image in the search “three Asian teenagers” search results: it’s called Three Asian Girls Shopping Stock Photo. We’d show you that image, which is here, but it’s far more expensive to use than any of the pornography. One might ask, literally and figuratively, what’s wrong with this picture?
