Grace VanderWaal is the 12-year-old singer from New York who stole the hearts of everyone watching America’s Got Talent. She walked on stage wearing yellow pants and explained to the judges that “most my friends don’t know I can sing.” With her uke, Grace sang one of her original songs which included the lyric “I don’t play by the rules of the game…But I’m trying to find my way.” After the performance, AGT judge Howie Mandel said: “I think you’re a beautiful, walking miracle,” and he pressed the Golden Buzzer which sends Grace straight to the finals. Judge Simon Cowell said, “I think you’re the next Taylor Swift.” Cowell turned to Howie, “Now I’m annoyed I didn’t hit the buzzer.”
Since the golden buzzer, Grace’s fan base has skyrocketed and her family is trying to satisfy the fan’ desire for more. They recently posted (above) a video of Grace when she was 3 years old. “She got this microphone for her third birthday and never put it down.” Grace isn’t mimicking a Taylor Swift song or that ubiquitous Frozen song, she’s making up lyrics. “I went up to my bedroom and saw my friend just laying there not even caring about me… that’s how we became friends.” (The only unfortunate thing about the video is that no one turned off the TV!) America’s Got Talent airs Tuesdays at 8pm on NBC.
