In the Vinyl episode “Rock and Roll Queen,” while Richie (Bobby Cannavale) faces the aftermath of Buck Rogers’ murder and Jamie (Juno Temple) moves in with Kip (James Jagger), American Century Records promotions man Zak Yankovich (Ray Romano) tries to help Gary Glombetta (aka Xavier) find a backing band. Zak discovered Gary at his daughter’s bat mitzvah, singing a David Bowie song. Now he’s helping to turn Gary into the Bowie-esque Xavier.
[Xavier is inspired by the real 1970s glam rock star Jobriath, “The American David Bowie”]
Gary/Xavier is portrayed by Douglas Smith. The Canadian-born actor is known for his roles in the films Terminator Genisys (Eric Thompson) and Ouija (Pete), and on the TV shows Big Love (Ben Henrickson), and CSI (Marlon West), among others. He’s also in the band “His Orchestra.” Vinyl airs Sundays at 9pm on HBO.
