Billionaire investor and prototypical capitalist Warren Buffett told CNBC that socialist (and Democrat presidential candidate) Bernie Sanders of Vermont runs his campaign like a red-blooded capitalist. That is, Sanders runs his campaign “exactly as I would campaign if I were a candidate,” Buffett said.
Buffett is a legendary believer in the power and efficiency of strong organizational structure — that’s one of the admirable qualities he sees in Sanders’ campaign. Buffett’s praise is not too surprising in another way, too. Though Sanders would raise Buffett’s taxes (by a lot), Buffett has already said he should pay more taxes — citing the fact that he pays a smaller percentage than his own secretary. Buffett praised Sanders lack of negative campaigning, saying Sanders has “run a model campaign.” Alas, the model campaign isn’t good enough: “He’s not going to get elected, but I admire him,” Buffett said of Sanders. Buffett is supporting Hillary Clinton.
