U.S. Representative Loretta Sanchez had a momentary lapse of political correctness that should bother her in the news cycle for about 24 hours. Sanchez is running for retiring Barbara Boxer’s Senate seat in California.
Hoping perhaps to endear herself to the Native Americans in the room, Rep. Sanchez seemed to be making a joke about the distinction between Indian-Americans from the Asian subcontinent and Native Americans when she made a demeaning gesture like little kids used to make — an ostensibly Native American “war cry.” Sanchez patted her mouth while saying woo woo woo. “I was shocked and appalled that she’d make the disparaging comments about Native Americans that way,” said Uduak-Joe Ntuke of Long Beach, according to local KCRA, where you can see the video.
