In the Iraqi city of Mosul, ISIS is marking the homes of Christians with a red symbol. It’s the Arabic letter N – for Nasara or Nazarenes – a pejorative word for Christians (pronounced “noon”). When ISIS puts the mark on a home, according to 60 Minutes, the residents must either convert to Islam, pay an extortion tax or face “death by the sword.” The marking is being compared to when Nazis marked Jewish homes and businesses with the word “Jude.”
Archbishop Bashar Warda of Erbil (in Iraq’s Kurdish-controlled North) says “waging war against ISIS fighters is the only way to save the Christian Church in Iraq.” He says his flock has rapidly expanded to about 60,000 as hundreds of thousands of Christians are fleeing from Mosul. CBS will air Lara Logan’s report from Mosul on 60 Minutes, Sunday, March 22, 7pm on CBS.
