Sons of Anarchy star Katey Sagal plays the dark, bad-ass Gemma Teller Morrow with so much vivid power that one swift summary describes Gemma as a “force of nature.” It’s a role that’ll be hard to top, but news that Sagal will star in the new FX series The Bastard Executioner just got better with the addition of True Blood‘s Stephen Moyer. And The Bastard Executioner is being created by Sagal’s husband, Kurt Sutter (Sons of Anarchy, The Shield), who will also star. They know the stakes after their brilliant Sons run. But they won’t stray too far from what works–as Kaitlin Thomas at tv.com writes: “it’s like Sons of Anarchy with period costumes? I can dig it.”
The Bastard Executioner tells the story of a “a warrior knight, played by Aussie newcomer Lee Jones, who finds himself weary from the savagery of war but is forced to take up arms once again under King Edward I’s charge,” according to Variety. Sagal will play a character called Annora of the Alders, a beautiful and mystical elder. Easy to see. As Sagal has said in an interview: “we all have that desire to be wild and bad.” Get ready.
