She was as big a part of the groundbreaking MTV equation as anybody–big as U2 and, for a time, even Madonna. Pat Benatar created some driving earworm music that told some tough stories–but she was also impossible to take your eyes off of. Benatar was discovered dinging at the NYC talent mecca Catch a Rising Star club, singing amid a barrage of comedians like Robin Williams and Rodney Dangerfield. Her picture was on the wall there for decades.
Benatar went on to record 15 top 40 singles and four top 10 singles that you still hear if you hit scan on your car radio three times on any long trip. “Hit Me with Your Best Shot“, “Love Is a Battlefield“, “We Belong” are among them. Benatar won four Grammy Awards. Today Pat Benatar is 62.
