Julien’s Auctions in Beverly Hills just sold a piece of wedding cake from the 2011 wedding of Prince William and Duchess Catherine (that’s Kate Middleton, you know) for $7,500. The slice came from an elaborate eight-tiered fruitcake and came in a handsome tin, along with a blank invitation to the wedding.
Half a decade ago Julien’s sold a 27-year-old piece of wedding cake from the wedding of Princess Diana and Prince Charles for $6,000. Middleton’s wedding confection had a 25% premium over her mother-in-law’s sweets.
