“My question is how do I present it to him without him feeling like I feel sorry for him? I’m just trying to help a brother out.” That’s what Greensboro, North Carolina high school student Yaovi Mawuli asked on Facebook–because he had the idea of giving one of his classmates a new pair of Air Jordans. (The classmate’s kicks were kind of beat up.) And not just any Air Jordans either, but the new Jordan XIs–the ones that had people camping out overnight for–just to get a ticket for the right to buy a pair when they got delivered.
Mawuli is not just a high school kid but a sneaker fanatic, or as he identifies himself: CEO at Kixify.com/raresalekicks. But it’s his generosity–and his sensitivity to his classmate’s feelings–that have moved a lot of people. One Facebook user wrote to Mawuli: “I don’t know you but I saw what you did for a classmate!!! Hats off to you and best of luck to you in the future…. Respect.” Mawuli replied with gratitude and a great reminder: “Thank You all I really appreciate it, remember to pass it forward when you guys get a chance to help.” Amen.
