Hunger Games star Jennifer Lawrence has a lot in common with Funny Girl Barbra Streisand. For starters, JLaw looks like a younger Babs, especially with her pixie cut. (And both have catchy nicknames.) When Jennifer Lawrence won her first Oscar for her role in Silver Linings Playbook (2013) she tripped before wrapping her long fingers around that golden, nude statuette. Streisand stumbled too before accepting her first Oscar in 1968 for Funny Girl. Both Academy Award winning actresses recovered gracefully and charmed the audience. (Streisand famously caressed and addressed the statue in her hands, saying, “Hello, gorgeous.”)
Blue-eyed Jennifer Lawrence (24) and blue-eyed Barbra Streisand (72) both come from modest, working class families. Lawrence was raised in Louisville, Kentucky, where her father was a construction worker. Streisand grew up in Brooklyn, where her father was a high school teacher. By the age of 14, Lawrence decided to pursue an acting career — she persuaded her parents to move to New York. At the age of 13, Streisand recorded her first demos in New York. Both went on to star opposite Robert De Niro (Silver Linings Playbook, Meet the Fockers). Today, JLaw is the highest-grossing action heroine of all time (Hunger Games). Barbra Streisand: The Concert is, to date, the highest-rated concert special in HBO’s 30-year history. One thing Lawrence can’t do, by her own admission, is sing. She told MTV in 2012 simply: “I’m not a singer.” Barbra Streisand has yet to admit there is something she can’t do.
