Formula 1 champion Michael Schumacher is getting better after a brain injury he suffered on the ski slopes last December, Dr. Jean-Francois Payen told the French radio station RTL in an interview. Payen said that Schumacher had made some “progress.” But the doctor also cautioned that an injury of this nature normally resulted in a recovery period of three to four years.
The 45-year-old driver was placed in a medically-induced coma to assuage swelling in his brain. It’s possible the camera on his helmet compromised the helmet’s safety standards. Schumacher smashed his head against a rock while moving at an expert skier’s speed.
