Immigration Judge J. Dan Pelletier Sr. scolded immigration attorney Stacy Ehrisman-Mickle for bringing her 4-week-old baby to court. Before the birth of her child, the attorney filed a request to postpone the hearing for her clients as the date fell during her maternity leave. But the judge denied her request. “No good cause,” he wrote.
Ehrisman-Mickle told the Associated Press that she was shocked to hear that the motion had been denied and said she was “in a state of panic. I didn’t know what to do with my baby.” Her truck driver husband was out of state, and a four-week-old baby is too young for day care so she strapped the newborn in a carrier on her chest and brought the baby to court. During the hearing, Judge Pelletier scolded her “for inappropriate behavior and commented that her pediatrician must be appalled that she was exposing the baby to so many germs in court.”
