There will definitely be a sequel to Prometheus. Ridley Scott will return to direct the movie, just as soon as he finishes getting Matt Damon back from Mars. Noomi Rapace and Michael Fassbender will also reprise their roles. Plot details are sketchy (the script is unfinished) but Rapace recently dropped hints that the film will tackle some large philosophical questions, and might even have God as the villain. When she was asked what threat her character, Elizabeth Shaw, might face in Scott’s vision of the film, she responded “God, maybe? God or Devil, I don’t know. I don’t know where he’s going to take us, but I can’t wait to go there. I don’t know what we’re going to discover.” God as a bad guy? Is Ridley Scott looking for some balance after Exodus: Gods and Kings?
Prometheus ended with Elizabeth and android David (Fassbender) heading to the Engineers’ home planet, which the actress sees as a version of Paradise. “Well, I know Elizabeth Shaw wants to go to paradise. I say that in the first one. I don’t want to go back. She can’t go to Earth, because there’s nothing left for her there, really. She wants to go to where they came from, these giant creatures. I think, in her head, that’s a dark paradise, in a way, so what’s there? I don’t know. I think she wants answers, she wants to know, and I feel like I’m sharing her curiosity, but also anger.” Prometheus 2 will arrive in theaters in March, 2016.
