Leonardo DiCaprio has been involved in climate change politics since at least 1998–a bold decision since after 1997’s smash hit Titanic you’d think he wouldn’t be a big fan of icebergs. But it was in 1998 that he established the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation, which is “dedicated to protecting the earth’s last wild place [and creating] a harmonious relationship between humanity and the natural world.”
This week DiCaprio was invited by United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to address the UN Climate Summit in New York. The opportunity even made DiCaprio jump onto Instagram where, he’s been a stranger. (He’s posted all of six times to his account–though he’s got 251K followers!) DiCaprio’s first post was a photo of himself and Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, both dapper in blue blazers. But they were really, you can tell, thinking green.
