Mission Impossible is a pretty healthy movie series. Taking off from a TV series which first ran from 1966-73, the Tom Cruise movie juggernaut began in 1996–and it’ll soon be just two shy of having as many films as Rocky, despite Rocky‘s 20-year head start. Cruise not only stars in these high-tech, well-plotted action adventure dramas, he produces them. That’s good for Cruise, who laughs whenever some jerk in Hollywood says he’s not relevant anymore. The first four Mission Impossible films have grossed over $2 billion worldwide.
Director Christopher McQuarrie (The Usual Suspects) and Cruise and company just started shooting Mission Impossible 5 in Vienna, Austria. Ving Rhames (who’s been in all four previous MI movies) will also return for the action.
