Lil Wayne, the immensely successful hip-hop artist, doesn’t miss much. When Jay Z announced last summer that he was getting into the sports agent business, Lil Wayne took notice and started exploring the possibilities. TMZ first reported on Lil Wayne’s new plans for his own sports and marketing agency–and the rapper is, of course, starting LARGE. Word has it that Weezy (another Lil Wayne alias) will kick off, so to speak, his new business with soccer start Cristiano Ronaldo as a client. Ronaldo is the on-again-off-again “best player in the world” and one of the most marketable names in global sports. Lil Wayne will look after Ronaldo’s American brand.
Lil Wayne will partner his agent business with PolarisSports, a branch of Gestifute--one of the leading sports agencies and sports marketing companies in the world. PolarisSports/Gestifute already represents Ronaldo worldwide. Gestifute is lead by Jorge Mendes. Ronaldo and Weezy are friends, which is becoming a bigger deal for athletes who prefer a pal/colleague on their negotiating team–over the traditional lawyer in a suit. (See LeBron James’ agent.)
