By her own account, Martina Clark could “teach you how to put a condom on your man with your hands behind your back in the dark.” But despite this ravishing skill set, you won’t find her counseling lovelorn couples or titillating Cosmo conferences on panels like 120 Things To Do in the Dark. Nope: you’ll find her on a plane most likely, flying to one of the more than 90 countries she’s visited to arm local populations with public health know-how and condoms. Not to mention that nifty lesson in prophylactic prestidigitation.
Or at least the airport was where you used to find her. These days, adroit as her hands may be, it’s when they start typing that they really find their groove. As a writer, Clark brings the wide curiosity you expect in the well-traveled and an entertaining prose style as sensibly packed as her luggage. She thinks well and generously, and writes that way too. Check out her brief, personal book recommendations and more at Travelati–a crowd-sourced magazine where Clark currently serves as managing editor. It’s just a teaser, but her travel memoir in the works won’t lack for material.
