Former Governor of Pennsylvania Ed Rendell is part of a group trying to buy the Philadelphia Media Network, which owns news outlets considered vital information sources for citizens of the country’s fifth biggest city. Some suspect that Rendell’s group, once in control, might try to manage news that is unfavorable to its widespread interests, and thereby clog the freedom of the press essential to democracy. Rendell insists his word is good and that he and his team should be trusted.
The controversy grew loud enough that the former governor said in an interview two days ago that he would no longer speak publicly on the matter. Yesterday, he gave a half-hour radio interview discussing the bid.
