If Donald Trump were to win the GOP nomination and even carry states while campaigning from prison — a real possibility — Alabama would likely be one of those states.
The deep red, Deep South Crimson Tide state hasn’t voted Democrat in a Presidential contest since Jimmy Carter won his seat in the Oval Office in 1976. And the GOP-heavy, controversially districted Alabama electorate is very unlikely to give Joe Biden the nod in 2024, hence Trump’s catbird seat in the state.
But first he has to secure the nomination. As an incumbent, Trump won the 2020 Alabama primary with 96% of the vote. In 2016 he also won handily, against a larger field, getting more than twice the votes of second place finisher Ted Cruz.
Yet despite Alabama being a sure thing for Trump, the Trump family found excitement and solace in Alabama’s support this week, an otherwise dark time for Trump and his campaign, as he was arraigned on conspiracy charges after his third indictment of the year.
Portraying it as bigger news than it is, Donald Trump Jr. added a profane “LFG!!!” to reporting that Trump had secured the unsurprising endorsements of Alabama GOP House members Robert Aderholt, Mike Rogers, Gary Palmer, Barry Moore and Dale Strong — who snubbed Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.

DeSantis, who was early on expecting a strong showing in Alabama, has failed so far to make significant inroads on Trump’s lead and loyalty in the state.
Alabama, perhaps to DeSantis’s disadvantage, already has its own “woke” police, including Senator Tommy Tuberville, who has also thrown his — again unsurprising — support behind Trump 2024.
