Billionaire Charles Koch is among the richest men on earth, with a $50+ billion fortune that makes run-of-the-mill billionaires like Donald Trump look middle class by comparison. And Koch is parting with some of his money to try to keep Trump out of the White House in 2024.
While Trump raises money in small donations from MAGAdonians who believe the former president is being persecuted, Koch is reportedly funneling big money into the super PAC Americans for Prosperity Action, with the aim of warning Republican primary voters that a Donald Trump-led GOP ticket in 2024 is a loser.
How much of a loser is Trump 2024? Koch is behind a message that says Trump is actually “Biden’s Secret Weapon.”
CNBC reports that Koch dollars are funding the six short video ads that warn primary voters that “Trump can’t win” — and that a primary vote for the former president is essentially a vote for the current president. (Notably, Koch didn’t support Trump in 2016 either.)
The current ads are “targeting voters in the key early primary and caucus states Iowa, South Carolina, New Hampshire and Nevada,” according to an Americans for Prosperity Action spokesperson.
Koch, 87, gained fame as industrialist, a major philanthropist, and a political kingmaker — the “Koch brothers” (Charles and his late brother David) are often credited with the creation of the Tea Party, a predecessor of today’s MAGA. Koch is ranked by Bloomberg as the 14th richest person in the world. He has long supported conservative and libertarian causes.
Koch Industries is a privately held multinational corporation involved in various industries such as refining, chemicals, energy, and more. Is is one of the largest and most influential companies globally.
