The MAGA wing of the GOP may see all Democrats as virtually the same, but — as they may recognize from their own party’s strained factions — the Dems rarely present a wholly unified front. As a result, the far left — where lawmakers like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Bernie Sanders sit — sometimes offer criticisms of those in their own party that sound a lot like what comes from GOP rabble-rousers Lauren Boebert or Marjorie Taylor Greene.
This week Ocasio-Cortez promoted a New York Times investigative story about child labor stemming from the migrant surge into the U.S. from Latin America. But the Congresswoman amplified not just the already highly critical story — instead, Ocasio-Cortez deliberately chose to feature the even more scalding assessment of the situation offered by former HUD Secretary Julian Castro. (Castro served in the Obama Administration.)
Stunning lack of oversight and accountability by the Biden administration despite repeated direct warnings by staff about the exploitation of migrant children. This story keeps getting worse. https://t.co/8gXfDR1Ks4

Castro commented that it was a “stunning lack of oversight and accountability by the Biden administration despite repeated direct warnings by staff about the exploitation of migrant children. This story keeps getting worse.”
That’s what Ocasio-Cortez shared with her millions of followers — an inflamed critique of the Democratic President’s administrative failure at the border. This is not an example of the Democrats circling the wagons, despite precariously thin margins in public opinion and the Senate. Ocasio-Cortez here is ranking accountability over party fidelity.
The Times’ own description asserted that the “Biden administration repeatedly ignored warnings and missed signs that migrant children were being exploited for labor” — which might have been damning enough, but Ocasio-Cortez still opted to share the more incendiary accusation, labelling Biden’s lack of oversight “stunning.”
