NBA icon LeBron James and his Spring Hill Entertainment business partner Maverick Carter have given an unexpected haircut to their current season of The Shop: Uninterrupted, the dynamic unscripted HBO series focused on barbershop conversations that don’t shy away from controversial topics.
But controversial opinions — as often surface on the show — do not include hate speech, which is why Carter made the decision to cut The Shop episode featuring Kanye West, AKA Ye.
Carter told CNN:
“While The Shop embraces thoughtful and difficult topics, we have zero tolerance for hate speech and will not air it on any of our channels under any circumstances. I take full responsibility for believing Kanye wanted a different conversation. While I understand this may leak, I hope others choose to do the right thing and not give hate speech an audience of any kind.”
West’s mental health has been of wide concern and he was recently suspended and restricted from Instagram and Twitter for antisemitic commentary.
For fans of The Shop and hip hop, missing Kanye might be assuaged by revisiting the episode below, featuring a candid Jay-Z.
