Houston Rockets superstar James Harden went on a scoring outburst against Kawhi Leonard‘s revamped LA Clippers, punching in 47 points during a hard-fought, sometimes ugly Rockets win, 102-93.
Russell Westbrook, Harden’s newest superstar teammate, took the opportunity to slam former Rocket Patrick Beverley, who’s now with the Clippers. Beverley has proclaimed himself the best defender in the NBA. Westbrook disagrees.
“What did James [Harden] score? 44? 47? Pat Bev trick y’all, man. Like he playing defense,” Westbrook said. “He don’t guard nobody, man. He’s just running around doing nothing.”
Westbrook can’t be faulted for being in a less-than-happy mood, despite the win. He picked up four fouls in the first quarter, a career first, and his shot had trouble finding the bottom (6-of-20).
But it should be said in Beverley’s defense — so to speak — that nobody has figured out how to stop Harden, whose 36ppg last year was the highest NBA season average since Michael Jordan was in his prime.
