NBA superstar LeBron James is in a layup line with some kids, warming up with about four minutes to go before tip-off. Thing is, in a lot of ways this monster of a man is still just like those kids. The spring in James’s step hardly reveals the wear and tear his body — entering his 17th NBA season — has doubtless endured. LeBron James looks like a man — pink shoes and all — who still plays with the exuberance of a high school hooper.
In the line, James throws himself a killer alley-oop off the glass and finishes with a thunderclap.
The gym appears to be the Bishop Gorman High School home floor. Bishop Gorman is a basketball powerhouse in Las Vegas, Nevada. And James is all cool rolling back to the rebounding side of the lines, casually accepting some low fives from some players who just saw him nearly hit his head on the ceiling.
It all reminds us of a comment one hoops head made two seasons ago, saying: “we’ve had players play in the league for 15 seasons before, and we’ve always had a best player in the league — but until now we’ve never had the best player in the league be in his 15th season.” If you don’t think James’s hops look like those he had in high school, take a walk down memory lane below.
