James Rodriguez is an incredible — and incredibly popular — soccer player. The attacking scorer, 27, currently working the pitch for Bayern Munich, has more than 41 million followers on Instagram. And those followers, especially those who admire James as much for his good looks as his great feet, are often rewarded with stylish poses.
This week Rodriguez upped his game by forgoing the fashion and just going in his very small workout shorts. Some American soccer fans wonder if they haven’t seen a similar image recently. A world famous multimillionaire soccer star, sculpted like stone and wearing nothing but a pair of short shorts?
Oh, yes, that was Cristiano Ronaldo, the Portuguese superstar who incidentally has more followers on Instagram than any other person in the world — with 166 million followers. It’s that following and Cristiano’s own sculpted physique that commands the massive advertising endorsement money that sets Cristiano apart from the rest. Even from Rodriguez. Ronaldo’s deal with Altice, which resulted in the famous Cristiano in his underwear viral ad below, is among the most lucrative of all sports figure advertising deals. (It was renewed this year; Altice added Neymar too.)
Looks like James Rodriguez could very easily do an ad like this, too. He looks like he may even be auditioning on Instagram. Which giant multinational will be the one to feature a shirtless Rodriguez next? We’ll have to wait and see.
