Charles Barkley Predicts He Will Win “Black Masters” After Jim Nance Introduction
Famous sports announcer and media personality Jim Nantz takes a risk in satirizing one of his bread-and-butter gigs, The Masters Tournament at Augusta National. Broadcast every April on CBS, the Masters is a rite of spring in America as Nantz perennially lauds the blooming azaleas and helps hand out the iconic green jacket in cozy Butler Cabin.
It’s a risk because Augusta National is very protective of its billion dollar brand and there are serious rules of decorum around the tournament, any breach of which can get an announcer fired and banned.

But Nantz’s satire was worth the risk, as he went on TNT and introduced “that tradition come every May down in the state of Georgia, the gathering of the legends…and Ernie Johnson will be defending his title as the greats compete for the coveted black jacket.”
The satire introduces a real golf tourney, where sports celebs vie to win what NBA legend Charles Barkley has nicknamed “The Black Masters.”
Barkley, who has had incredible — and incredibly funny — difficulty with his golf swing over the years, promised that his TNT studio partner Johnson will not successfully defend his title. (See video of Barkley’s swing below.) Perhaps Barkley is inspired by his former best pal Tiger Woods‘s comeback to win at Augusta this year, after a Grand Slam gap of a decade.
Here’s Barkley: “I’m just letting you all know America, Ernie Johnson is not winning the Black Masters this year. He’s not winning the Black Masters. I’m gonna rise up,” Barkley said, “I’m gonna rise up for everybody out there and I’m gonna win the Black Masters.”
