There is some controversy over whether the Denver Nuggets super-skilled big man Nikola Jokic likes his nickname “Big Honey.” But there is no doubt at all that announcers like the Big Honey moniker — a lot. Charles Barkley on TNT just loves to say Big Honey when Jokic does something special, and that means in these NBA playoffs Barkley says “Big Honey” more than Winnie the Pooh utters the phrase in his dreams.
Here’s Jokic getting his Big Honey nickname made public during the All-Star picks this year (watch at 3:30 mark):

But now that the Nuggets are lighting up the NBA Playoffs, not least because of the incredible 4-overtime game against the Portland Trail Blazers, Big Honey may just — well — stick. Barkley can’t stop saying it as Jokic goes to the basket and hits great shots including a long bank shot. “C’mon Big Honey,” Barkley says. “Big Honey be ballin’. Big Honey be ball-IN.” Barkley also offered this insight: “Jokic looks like one of those guys in the hood who gets picked last and he always wins.”
