The call for LA Councilman Harris-Dawson to name the Los Angeles intersection of Crenshaw and Slauson after slain rapper Nipsey Hussle has some powerful people backing it. Probably the most powerful — at least in terms of sheer strength (and yes, influence) — is NBA Hall of Fame center and former Los Angeles Lakers star Shaquille O’Neal. If Shaq has his way with City Hall like he had his way with opposing NBA centers, lots of LA drivers will soon be driving through Nipsey Hussle Blvd or Nipsey Hussle Way when they hit Crenshaw and Slauson. “Let’s make this happen,” writes Shaq.

The Nipsey Hussle Blvd. change.org petition to name the intersection after Nipsey has been moving around fast and getting lots of support from workaday folks too. Here’s a typical comment on the petition: “Nipsey was loved by so many in the community. He wanted to make an impact in the community by informing people about ownership and the importance of working together as a race. Unfortunately he was gunned down and killed . we must end gun violence and protect one another In honor of a community icon.”
