NBA legend Derek Fisher is guest starring on the sixth episode of The Fix, the TV series created by Marcia Clark, the lead prosecutor who lost the infamous O.J. Simpson murder trial in 1995. (Speculation has abounded about whether The Fix is Clark’s “revenge fantasy” about Simpson’s so-called Trial of the Century and there are many similarities — and some differences — between the case and the drama.) On the latest episode “The Fugitive,” Sevvy (the O.J. Simpson-like character) goes AWOL right before he’s due to appear in court. Meanwhile, Maya (the Marcia Clark-like character) meets with Jessica Meyer’s sister Lindsay (guest star Molly C. Quinn) who wants Sevvy behind bars for the death of her sister — but is afraid for her life. She believes she’s being stalked. A new character named Vick Marshall is introduced in this episode and he’s portrayed by hoopster-turned-actor Derek Fisher.
After helping the Los Angeles Lakers win three consecutive NBA championships (2000-2002) with teammates Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant and coach Phil Jackson, Fisher made his acting debut in a 2003 episode of Eve as a competitive basketball player named Trevor (see link above). He put his acting career on hold after that and continued to play basketball for the Golden State Warriors, Utah Jazz, Oklahoma City Thunder, Dallas Mavericks and Lakers again before he pivoted and became head coach of the New York Knicks (2014-2016). In 2017, Fisher competed on the TV dance competition Dancing with the Stars (Season 25) with pro dancer Sharna Burgess. The 44-year-old NBA champ is now head coach of the WNBA’s Los Angeles Sparks. The Fix airs Mondays at 10 pm on ABC, right after American Idol.
Derek Fisher also played black-ish star Miles Brown‘s mentor in this NBA short film…
