Fashion design icon Karl Lagerfeld died on February 19, 2019 in Paris. His death was announced by the fashion house Chanel, where he was creative director for decades.The German-born designer was 85. One of his celebrity muses, fashion-forward Grammy Award-winning singer Rihanna, paid tribute on Instagram by posting photos of the two together, with the caption “The Godfather. #🖤” See below.
Rihanna has become a fashion icon, too, of course. In addition to her Puma x Fenty collection (see link above), she has also launched Fenty Beauty (cosmetics), and most recently launched the Savage Fenty lingerie line at New York Fashion Week in September 2018. On February 20, 2019, the day after Lagerfeld’s death, the beauty from Barbados turns 31. Sadly she’ll have to celebrate without “The Godfather.”
