Desi Allinger, owner of Desi Designs Couture, is the designer who dressed 27-year-old singer and songwriter Joy Villa for the 2019 Grammy Awards event on February 10. On the red carpet Villa wore a white gown that had been painted on with a black outline of bricks and a message in red paint on the back of the gown that read: “Build the Wall.” She carried a red brick-shaped purse that read “Make American Great Again.” When the designer posted photo from the event (see below) he wrote: “I appreciate the opportunity to make what I love to do and help a client achieve their vision. We are all different and we belong.” Allinger also added a disclaimer: “The views, thoughts, and opinions expressed by my clients are not necessarily the same as my views, thoughts, and opinions.” However, in the video below, where Villa and Allinger talk about the dress and its message, they are very much in agreement.

Villa is known for wearing attention-grabbing outfits with political statements at the Grammy Awards. At the 2018 Grammy Awards, she wore a white dress with a painting of a baby inside a uterus and carried a purse that read “Choose Life.”
Two weeks after the Grammy Awards red carpet scene, Allinger announced that he’s excited to design another gown for Villa to be revealed at the American Conservative Union’s annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), which begins February 27. Fun fact: Reality TV star Rick Harrison of Pawn Stars will speak at CPAC. He has ideas on “how to fix education in America.”
