In the Fresh off the Boat episode “You’ve Got a Girlfriend”, Evan (Ian Chen) has a girlfriend and his mother Jessica (Constance Wu) does not approve. Meanwhile, the rest of the family go out to see the film “You’ve Got Mail” which really eats at Louis (Randall Park). The movie reminds him of “a ruthless act he unconsciously committed years ago which resulted in a mom and pop rib shack going out of business, much like what took place in the movie.”
The Rib Shack owner Mom is portrayed by Dale Raoul, who’s known for her roles on Under the Dome (Andrea Grinnell) and True Blood (Hoyt’s mother Maxine Fortenberry).

The Rib Shack owner Pop is portrayed by Fred Grandy, who’s best known for his role as Ship’s Purser “Gopher” Smith on The Love Boat. Grandy more recently played Dr. Ledreau on The Mindy Project and Father Corey on General Hospital. Fun facts about Grandy: After his TV acting career, the Harvard graduate became a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from the state of Iowa and later CEO of Goodwill Industries International. Fresh off the Boat airs Fridays at 8 pm on ABC, right before Speechless.
