According to reports, William Barr is set to be the next Attorney General of the United States — and no, this isn’t being written in 1991 when the same sentence would be true. Barr served in the Attorney General post under President George H. W. Bush, having also served as Deputy Attorney General. That’s not all that makes Barr a card-carrying member of the Washington establishment, as well as a member of the educated American elite. Barr was born in New York City and grew up on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. He attended elite educational institutions all his life, including the renowned Horace Mann School and then the Ivy League’s Columbia University.
At Columbia, Barr took not just a B.A. degree but also a Master’s Degree in Chinese studies. Barr attended The George Washington University to obtain his law degree and later worked at the CIA. When Barr first held the position of US Attorney General, he was the 77th AG in US history. He later held executive positions at GTE and later with Verizon as a result of a GTE merger.
