For their America’s Got Talent audition, a choir of about 70 children ages 5 to 17, Voices of Hope Children’s Choir, sang the song “This Is Me” from the musical movie The Greatest Showman. In the film, the song “This Is Me” is sung by the character Lettie Lutz, a bearded lady, who was portrayed by Keala Settle. Settle loved the Voices of Hope Children’s Choir’s performance on AGT and called the kids “lil angels of light”, see post below. (The song won the 2018 Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song, and was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Song.) While Voices of Hope Children’s Choir didn’t get four yeses – Howie Mandel voted no – 3 yeses is all they needed to advance to the Judges Cuts.
[This Is Me is on the original The Greatest Showman soundtrack]
Voices of Hope Children’s Choir is a non-profit organization in Orange County, California. The program is open to all children and there is no tuition. The director of the Voices of Hope Children’s Choir, Sarah Grandpré, told AGT judge Simon Cowell that if they won the $1 million prize, they would put it all back into the program to reach more children. New episodes of America’s Got Talent air Tuesdays at 8pm on NBC, right before World of Dance.
