In the Season 3 episode of Supergirl “Schott Through the Heart,” after the death of Winn’s (Jeremy Jordan) father Winslow “Toyman” Schott Sr., he’s approached by his estranged mother Mary McGowan. Winn is suspicious because she abandoned him years ago. She explains to Winn that her husband warned her that if she were ever to make connect with Winn, he would kill Winn. Mary warns Winn, “You’re still in danger.” Now they must work together to stop a copycat Toyman.

Winn’s estranged mother Mary McGowan is portrayed by Laurie Metcalf. The founding ensemble member of the famous Steppenwolf Theatre in Chicago is known for her TV roles on Roseanne (Roseanne’s sister Jackie), The Big Bang Theory (Sheldon’s mother Mary), Getting On (Dr. James), Desperate Housewives (Carolyn Bigsby), and Norm (Laurie Freeman), among others. Metcalf is also well recognized for her roles in the films Lady Bird (for which she was nominated for an Oscar), and Uncle Buck (next door neighbor Marcie). Or maybe you recognize her voice as Mrs. Davis in the Toy Story movies. Supergirl airs Mondays at 8pm on CW, right before iZombie.
