Britton Buchanan is the 17-year-old singer from North Carolina who’s made it to the Top 12 on Season 14 of The Voice. Britton has been wowing everyone since his Blind Audition, where he sang Ray LaMontagne’s “Trouble” and joined Alicia Keys’ team. For the Knockout Round, Britton performed Billy Joel’s ballad “New York State of Mind” and beat Rayshun LaMarr, who was stolen by Adam Levine, and is also one of the Top 12.

Two days before Britton performs again on The Voice — to vie for a spot on the Top 11 — Britton turned to Bruce Springsteen for inspiration. He quotes The Boss twice. In the photo below he holds a sign which reads “Faith Will Be Rewarded” and the caption is another Springsteen quote: “Big wheels roll through fields where sunlight streams. Meet me in a land of hope and dreams.” Both lines are from Springsteen’s single “Land of Hope and Dreams” from his 2012 album Wrecking Ball. The song uses a train metaphor: “This train/dreams will not be thwarted/this train/faith will be rewarded,” he sings. Before the song was recorded on the album, Springsteen fans who heard the song in concert referred to it as the “Train Song.” (Note: “Land of Hope and Dreams” was written in 1999 and performed on tour with the E Street Band for years prior to its release.) The Voice airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 8pm on NBC.
