In the Blue Bloods episode “School of Hard Knocks,” a student is shot by a rival gang member in his high school courtyard. When NYPD detectives Danny Reagan (Donnie Wahlberg) and Maria Baez (Marissa Ramirez) show up to investigate, they meet Principal Darryl Ward. Ward is reckless and decides to take matters into his own hands.
Principal Ward is portrayed by Ernie Hudson. He’s known for his roles on Grace and Frankie (Jacob), Modern Family (Jay’s friend Miles), The Secret Life of the American Teenager (Dr. Ken Fields), Desperate Housewives (Detective Ridley), and Oz (Warden Leo Glynn), among many others. Hudson is also well recognized for his roles in the Ghostbusters films (Winston Zeddmore), Miss Congeniality (Harry McDonald), and The Hand That Rocks the Cradle (Solomon, see link above). You can see Hudson next in the TV spinoff of the film Bad Boys which starred Martin Lawrence and Will Smith. Hudson will play the father of Special Agent Syd Burnett, Gabrielle Union’s character. Blue Bloods airs Fridays at 10pm on CBS, right after Hawaii Five-0.
