One week after 19-year-old Nikolas Cruz went on a killing rampage at his former high school in Parkland, Florida with his legally purchased AR-15 rifle, the National Rifle Association’s (NRA) CEO and Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre will speak at the American Conservative Union’s CPAC (Conservative Political Action Conference). Other speakers include President Donald Trump, Vice President Mike Pence, and Senator Ted Cruz, among other Republican politicians who receive donations from the NRA. The CPAC will take place February 21-24 at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center at National Harbor, Maryland. All four men spoke at CPAC last year.
The day before the Parkland massacre which left 17 people dead, ACU chair Matt Schlapp tweeted: “The Left has proven that they want to both silence and disarm those they disagree with. Wayne LaPierre of the NRA will take the fight to them…” Note: The organization ACU has presented Florida legislators with more ACUF awards for the 2017 session than the majority of other state’s legislators across the country. ACUF has commended Florida state legislators for expanding “the rights of individuals with a concealed carry permit to bring a firearm onto additional grounds, including courthouse lockers and private schools.”
