On the Hawaii Five-0 episode ‘O ka mea ua hala, ua hala ia (What is Gone is Gone),’ a man who is accused of killing his wife threatens to commit suicide. Captain Lou Grover tries to talks the man out of it and reveals how he too was once on the brink of taking his own life. It is a stunning performance by Chi McBride who plays Grover.
McBride said: “The episode affected me very deeply in a personal way. I think that if you’ve ever had the experience where someone that you know took their own life, it gives you a different perspective on what suicide is.” At the end of the episode, McBride appears in a PSA for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. Hawaii Five-0 airs Fridays at 9pm on CBS, right after MacGyver, and right before Blue Bloods.
