President Donald Trump‘s exclamation point on his “God bless you!” condolences to the victims of the horrifying Las Vegas shooting lacked the somber character usually used in such sorrowful moments. But reactions to attacks like this are difficult, and maybe the exclamation will help some people who trust in Trump’s leadership. It’s not the first time the president has tweeted about mass shootings, and not the first time he used exclamations to do so. In the past, Trump wasn’t president during the shootings he commented on — and he often used the shootings to aim his exclamation points at his political rivals. Though early on, in Newtown, Trump found common ground with President Obama on the tragic shootings there.
Here are eight Trump tweets on mass shootings, past and present.
My warmest condolences and sympathies to the victims and families of the terrible Las Vegas shooting. God bless you!
