Fixer Upper won’t return after season 5, because Chip and Joanna Gaines need a break. In a moving and sincere tribute to their fans, the Gaines’s said their decision to end the popular show wasn’t an easy one. Especially because, as they wrote: “Our family has grown up alongside yours, and we have felt you rooting us on from the other side of the screen. How bittersweet to say goodbye to the very thing that introduced us all in the first place.”
The Waco, Texas couple whose Fixer Upper was a staple of HGTV’s lineup, just “need to catch our breath for a moment,” they wrote. “We have poured our blood, sweat and tears into this show. We would be foolish to think we can go and go and fire on all cylinders and never stop to pause.” As goodbyes go, it ranks among the most enthusiastic possible. Reading it, fans get the impression that “Chip and Jo” are starting more things than they’re ending. And it’s very easy to see a return for ‘Fixer Upper’ in the future. After all, catching one’s breath is a way to get ready for what’s next. Here’s the most optimistic paragraph from a very upbeat letter of resignation:
“Though our Fixer Upper chapter is coming to a close, we aren’t done with Waco. We aren’t done renovating homes. We aren’t done designing things to make your home your favorite place on earth. We aren’t done working towards restoration in all things or helping out those who could use a hand. In fact, in all of these things, we are just getting started.”
